The pricing page says annual plans save up to 50 percent, and the numbers back it up on two of the three plans: Basic drops from $19 to $9 and Professional Plus from $79 to $39. Professional drops from $29 to $19, about 34 percent. Animoto also offers discounted plans to registered nonprofits, teachers, and schools, which you request from its customer team.
How much does Animoto cost per year?
Billed annually, Animoto costs $108 a year for Basic, $228 for Professional, and $468 for Professional Plus. Paying month to month for a full year costs $228, $348, and $948, so the annual plan saves $120 on Basic, $120 on Professional, and $480 on Professional Plus. The catch is that the annual fee is paid up front and Animoto does not refund unused time, which the next section covers.
Animoto refunds, cancellation, and what happens to your videos
Three rules matter before you pay for a year. First, the Animoto help center states that it does not refund fees, including for unused or partly used subscriptions, and that a prepaid term cannot be cancelled early. You can only turn off automatic renewal, and the help center recommends doing it at least 48 hours before the renewal date. If you bought through the iOS app, refunds go through Apple, not Animoto.
Second, cancelling keeps your paid features until the end of the billing period, then the account reverts to a free Animoto account. The pricing page FAQ says you keep full rights to your videos, but that videos stored in free accounts may be deleted, with advance warning.
Third, and easy to miss if your videos live on your website: when a paid subscription expires, Animoto share links and embeds stop working, and the help center says videos stay in the account for 90 days. Download the MP4 files of anything embedded on a landing page or listing before the plan ends.
Which Animoto plan should you buy?
Free is for trying the editor. The 720p export and the Animoto watermark rule it out for anything a client or customer will see.
Basic at $9 a month billed yearly is the cheapest way to publish clean 1080p slideshows from your own photos and clips. It has no voice-over, no brand kit, and no stock library beyond what you upload, so it fits a photographer, a realtor with listing photos, or a small shop with product shots.
Professional is the plan most businesses end up on, and Animoto marks it as the most popular. It is the first plan with voice-over, your logo and colors, 4K, Getty stock, and hosted video landing pages. If you make videos about topics you have no photos for, the stock library alone is the reason to buy it.
Professional Plus is the team plan. Three users, ten saved brands, a shared workspace with time-stamped comments, and a license to resell videos to businesses. Agencies and marketing teams that produce for several brands need it, and extra seats are bought in the product.
What Animoto costs per finished video
Because every plan has unlimited creation, the plan price divided by the number of videos falls fast. Professional billed yearly at $19 a month is under $1 a video if you make twenty a month. The real cost of an Animoto video is time. You pick a template, upload or choose media for each scene, write the text slides or voice-over, and arrange the pacing. For a one minute video that can easily be 20 to 45 minutes of work, and more when you have no photos and have to search the stock library scene by scene.
That is why the price comparison that matters depends on your raw material. If you have the photos and clips, Animoto is cheap and good. If your raw material is text, a blog post, a product page, or a script, the hours spent finding media are the cost, and a tool that builds the visuals for you is often cheaper in practice even with a higher sticker price.
Animoto vs a flat text to video plan
VidUp is built for the second case. Paste a script, a blog post, or a product URL and it returns a finished video in one render: an AI voiceover, word-timed burned-in captions, licensed stock footage matched to each line, and music, in 9:16, 1:1, and 16:9 at once. Plans count finished videos, with no credits or render minutes. It does not import your photos or clips and it has no editor, so it is not a replacement for Animoto when your own media is the point.
| What you need | Animoto | VidUp |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest paid price, billed yearly | $9 a month (Basic, 1080p, no voice-over) | $24 a month (Starter, 30 videos, 1080p) |
| Voice-over | Professional and up, $19 a month yearly | AI voiceover on every plan |
| Captions | Text you place on each scene | Word-timed captions generated with every video |
| Stock footage | Getty library you search, Professional and up | Licensed footage matched to each line automatically |
| Brand kit | 1 saved brand on Professional, 10 on Professional Plus | 1 on Starter, up to 5 on Pro |
| 4K | Professional, $19 a month yearly | Pro, $99 a month yearly |
| Team seats | 3 on Professional Plus, $39 a month yearly | 2 on Growth ($49 yearly), 3 on Pro |
| Vertical, square, and wide from one video | Choose a ratio per video | All three from one render |
| Your own photos and clips, editor, screen recording | Yes | No |
| Videos after you cancel | Embeds stop, 90 days of storage | MP4 files you already downloaded and host |
The honest read: Animoto is cheaper and the better tool for anyone whose videos are built from their own pictures and footage. VidUp costs more per month and wins on time for teams that publish narrated videos from written content every week, because nobody has to pick a single clip. A real estate team can run both, listing tours on a photo tool and market updates on text to video, the split described on the real estate video marketing page. And if a project needs real people on camera, a shoot day with a freelance videographer you hire for the day is still the right call for either tool.
If you are weighing Animoto against other editors, the Animoto alternative page compares the two products feature by feature, Lumen5 pricing covers the closest article to video template tool, and how much AI video generators cost prices 17 tools per finished video. To see what VidUp makes from your own text, paste a script into the console at the top of this page, then compare plans on the pricing page.
